Fair of Saint Orso

Every year Aosta Valley artists and artisans proudly display the fruits of their labor at the Sant’Orso fair, along the streets of Aosta city center. In the Middle Ages, the fair was taking place in Aosta hamlet, in the area surrounding the “Collegiata” church which bears the name of Sant’Orso.
Legendary tales tell us that it all began right in front of the church where the Saint – who lived before the 9th century – would have been used to distribute to the poor clothes and “sabot” – typical wooden shoes still sold at the fair today. Traditions show us who we are and tell of a time that belongs to us.
